for that part of the region and some more snow expected, a good portion of northern california if you are taking interstate 5 up through shasta, be extra careful. there is a chance we could have some freeway closures. look at this winter storm warning out towards the sierra. snowfall 2 to 5 feet. that's a lot of snow and that could cause some problems on the roadway as we head into friday, saturday and sunday. here's our forecast model for today. we're starting out dry an increase in the high clouds. we do bring in a chance for rain showers up in the north bay. you will notice the south bay's still dry but then into early friday morning we're tracking rain clouds. we'll have wet pavement to start out our can friday morning commute. for today, increasing clouds, the chance of a shower up in the north bay, especially toward the latter portion of the afternoon. a pretty active forecast, some rain and wind, tapering off into the afternoon. a second storm producing heavier rain. saturday morning and possibly a third one into sunday as well. have to keep an eye on the rivers and the streams out there

.j. winick reporting live from newtown, connecticut. >>> a northern california college campus has been reopened after a security threat. san jose city college was on lockdown as police conducted room-to-room searches after a report of a gunman on campus. but after an hour long search, nothing was found and the all-clear was sounded. >>> a scathing new report about the attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi, libya, claims failures of leadership and management created a lack of security at that facility. four americans, including u.s. ambassador chris stephens, were killed in that attack back on september 11 of this year. the independent report calls security at the benghazi consulate grossly inadequate and criticizes the state department for not better coordinating for what security was there and relying on local militias. but it does recommend no disciplinary action, at least right now. the report says the attack was the work of terrorists, and that despite those initial reports, there was tests outside the consulate before that attack. >> what i thought was interesting was our secre

news this morning, a northern california college campus has been reopened after a security threat that went on for hours. san jose city college was on lockdown as police conducted room-to-room searches after a report of a gunman on campus. after sealing off the campus, the all-clear was sounded. the gunman got away. >>> and a maryland high school student has been sent to a psychiatric hospital. classmates say they felt threatened, and his parents admitted the boy had access to weapons. a teacher reported the complaints to a school security officer who notified police. >>> we are learning much more about a so-called lone wolf terror plot against landmarks here in new york city. prosecutors say the suspect fully intended to carry out the attack, but he didn't have cash on hand. here's abc's andy field. >> reporter: in federal court, prosecutors described the 20-year-old as a suspected lone wolf terrorist inspired by al qaeda. he allegedly traveled to new york city on november 24 as part of a plot to detonate a bomb there. he had not identified a specific target, but those he conside

. skiers in northern california on cloud nine following this. a power will winter storm. now, forecasters say people on the east coast could enjoy a similar sight in time for christmas. but not so great if you are traveling. now, live to the fox news extreme weather center with more on what to expect. maria: you are right. we are talking about travel headaches for people who are traveling across parts of the east and the west through the day today and then as we head the next several days with both storm systems pummeling the country. we are talking about areas that usually do see it and areas that don't, including portions of arkansas and missouri, so this is unusual but, first, the storm system in the east which is produces areas of light rain. it is not a huge deal but slight rain in eastern tennessee and western carolinas and georgia and florida and that system will head north and bring light snow through portions of the interior northeast gist in time for christmas. and accumulations between 1" to 3", so nothing too major, so, here is the big storm, that will produce big time headach

hit washington, oregon, and northern california today and more heavy rain is expected to pound the region through tomorrow. flooding is causing problems like sinkholes. cnn's dan simon is standing in front of a huge one in lafayette, california. dan, another round of storms is coming, as wolf said. can that rain-soaked area handle anymore rain? >> reporter: well, it's just a mess, kate, and the forecast is bad news for these rain-soaked communities. let me explain where i am. i'm in lafayette, california, standing inside a sinkhole. this is pretty dramatic. it's 80 feet long, 40 feet wide, 15 deep. let me explain how this happened. the water was gushing beneath the road here. there's a creek. and basically, the soil just ripped away and it caused the street to cave in. crews have been working all day, trying to clear out these large chunks of concrete. they also had to create these alternative lines, these temporary lines for water and sewage to service this neighborhood, so they didn't, you know, go without basic services. the weather has been terrible here in the bay area for
